They looked like they were going to outlast them all, so the world was shocked when Reese Witherspoon filed for divorce from Ryan Philippe, her husband of 7 years. The couple had no prenuptial agreement, and Philippe would normally be entitled to half of Witherspoon’s assets by California law. They were like Dave Navarro and Carmen Electra, except hotter. Looking at this couple, you could tell that they had a lot of fun together, and scandalous videos of Anderson and Lee gave many a glimpse of what they do as a couple. When the couple divorced in 1998, Lee served four months in prison after pleading no contest to kicking Anderson in the crotch. 9. RENEE ZELLWEGER AND KENNY CHESNEY

Zellweger and Chesney split only four months after their beachside wedding. Zellweger filed the papers in September 2005 citing “fraud” as the reason for the break-up. A statement released by the actress said: “I would personally be very grateful for your support in refraining from drawing derogatory, hurtful, sensationalized or untrue conclusions.” Chesney followed his erstwhile wife’s statement with his own, saying: “I just hope everyone can respect our privacy.”

Oscar-winning actress Kim Basinger filed for divorce from actor Alec Baldwin after seven years of marriage. The judge presiding over the case issued a gag order, requiring both parties to avoid commenting publicly about the case. There’s no stopping the media, though. In 2007, Baldwin left an angry message on her daughter’s voicemail after she failed to answer a pre-arranged call. The child’s private message was then leaked to a website, leading people to think that Baldwin was a monster of a father.
